| child citizen My daughter went on a camping trip the past 3 days at Arcadia National Park with her 6 grade class. She told me that at some time they "voted" to see who they wanted for President and Senators. I asked her if there was anything that they had to fill out and she said yes, a card asked for name, address, birth date, and zip code. I asked if there was a question on the card that asked if she was a U.S. citizen or not and she told me there was. She told me that the students were instructed to fill in the "no" box on this question, saying that they were not citizens "yet". I'm confused about this really, seeings that if a mother wants to get tanf or food stamps here in Maine, the custodial parent has to prove "citizenship" of the child, and also identification, some new law they passed a short while ago. A custodial parent can not get these benefits without these two requirements. What the hell is going on? Does anyone have any ideas about this? (By the way, she filled in the "other" boxes on all the questions!) Anyways, I was pissed to think they do this voting crap with the kids!
A couple weeks ago my mother was told by a friend of hers at work that they had her grand daughter, at age 5!! who were doing this voting crap! WTF! I told my daughter to NOT fill out ANYTHING without showing me first! I instructed her to tell the teacher(s) that she has to inform ME of anything first!
Does anyone have any insight as to what might be going on here?
